This is a list of software I use, plan on using or will not use again. I keep this list because good software is hard to find and when I move to a new machine or need to reinstall I like to know what I usually install on that machine.

Software In Use
Software that has survived daily use for a week or more. These are applications that I prefer to have installed on my machine.-
Uninstalling a Mac application isn't always easy, with this it is. $12.95

Sets iTunes metadata, I use it to make video files "TV Shows"

A CHM viewer, comes in handy once in a while.

Virus scanner. I haven't had a virus on my Mac but this has caught a windows virus in one of my files.

I have version 1 and will probably buy their iPhone app if it's ever finished.

This is the main burning software I use on the Mac. $29.95

Shows the sizes of files and folders, useful for tracking down why your hard drive is full.

Changes your display at night to be kinder on your eyes. Not good for artists but great for late night programming.

Converts video, especially useful for uncommon formats.

In the rare cases Safari doesn't cut it, I run to Firefox.

So I can watch WMV movies seamlessly.

Controls iTunes via the keyboard, crashes sometimes unexpectedly but worth every penny.

Just because it's fun to play with.

Image viewer/converter, I rarely use it anymore but still highly recommended. $39

Used by several pieces of software for notifications.

Useful for backing up DVDs so they don’t get scratched.

Allows you to access the music that Apple normally hides in your iPod. This saved me after a hard drive crash.

Shows system status in the menu bar.

GUI application for viewing manual pages (man command line tool).

Useful for adding meta-data to your iTunes music and video files.

Video playback, supports more exotic formats than Quicktime.

The best task manager on the Mac and iPhone.

Fills in support for the video formats I use.

Allows you to set the default application to use a file type.

My favorite tool, it allows me to work from home.

Version Control System, it’s cross-platform and what I use at home.

If you have Mac OS X, you need this application. Learn how to use it and never go back. It's future seems to be in doubt, though.

Expands abbreviations as your type, another app you can't live without once you use it. $29.95

If I'm not using Xcode, I'm using TextMate. It's the best text editor I've used. $52.70

Allows you to tweak your Time Machine settings.

Download YouTube videos, for legitimate reasons.

I use this for my desktop Twitter client.

I use Xtorrent most of the time, but sometimes this does a better job.

Un-archives all the compression formats I use.

Video playback, plays almost everything under the sun and supports subtitles.

I used to download all torrent in Windows because uTorrent was better than everything on the Mac. Now, everything goes through Xtorrent. $20

Possibilities
Software that isn't installed right now, but I plan on trying out. Most of this comes from MacBreak Weekly.-
VisualHub was the king of video conversion until the developer abandoned it. Video Monkey appears to be the replacement.

This web site used to be managed by RapidWeaver until it became obvious that the program would lose blog posts, poor support for comments and generally crappy. $39.95

Changes the appearance of OS X, part of MacHeist. Interesting but not really worthwhile. $20

Hotkey control over iTunes. Used to love it, but the author never released updates. $13.45

Even for a beta, it crashes a lot. It comes to the front whenever a tweet happens. Just very annoying.
